BARRY & STACY

WHEN AND WHY DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN EDIBLE LANDCAPING / GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD?

Through our work as holistic practitioners we came to realize that our food supply is not so pure, and I (Barry) have always enjoyed growing things.

WHAT IS YOUR OVERALL VISION FOR YOUR PROPERTY?

We would like to grow 50% of our own food and herbal medicine. -With the herbs, we plan to make medicine, compounds, and medicated massage oils--using Ayurvedic techniques.  And we plan to share with our neighbors.

WHAT DOES YOUR IDEAL LOCAL FOODSCAPE LOOK LIKE?

We see that foodscapes are changing.  --There are more and more farmer's markets and more people interested in growing their own food.  We would like to see more places offering Ayurvedic cooking and medicinal foods, like kitchari, and foods spiced according to individual constitution. --You can find that in California, and Miami also has a few places.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT GROWING YOUR OWN FOOD?

Educating ourselves and then finding time to pull off what we have learned.  Especially if we want to do it responsibly.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO GAIN FROM THE CSF PROJECT:

Learning.

WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PROJECT?

Sharing with the community, and contributing to responsible growing.  --Getting healthy food out there and encouraging others to eat quality food and support smaller organic farmers.
